What you need to know if you use MedicalDirector or Best Practice Software for your Recalls and Reminders.

Cervical Screening Program Changes as of 1/12/17:

The two-yearly Pap test for women aged 18 to 69 will be replaced by a five yearly Cervical Screening Test (CST) for women aged 25 to 74. Key changes include:

    • your recall and reminder system!!
    • the age at which screening starts will increase from 18 years to 25 years
    • self-collection option for under screened or never screened women
    • the time between routine tests will change from two to five years
    • new National Cancer Screening Register (due 2018) who will invite women to participate in screening
    • women aged 70 to 74 years will be invited to have an exit test.

RACGP Standards 5th edition (released Nov 2017) specify practices need to remind patients when they need to have another screening and not rely on patients receiving reminders from the registers.

How are you going to manage the change? What are you going to call your recalls/reminders? What about your patients who are under 25 and due for a Pap test reminder right now? How can you educate and alleviate any possible concerns from your patients (or staff) with this change?

Katrina Otto has been educating practice staff across Australia on the new Cervical Screening Program guidelines and how to effectively manage the change, optimising use of Bp Premier, MedicalDirector Clinical and Pen CAT4 software.

Let Katrina, an experienced Practice Manager & qualified teacher, explain cancer screening changes relevant to your practice support team and lead your practice to an improved recall, reminder and screening program.
